SAN FRANCISCO PICNIC SOCIETY

by

Last Saturday was the day! Our first San Francisco Picnic Society meet up was happening at the Golden Gate Park. Let me tell you a little bit about it. The history of SF Picnic Society began in May with me buying the May issue of Sunset Magazine. There was this article; a bunch of creative,  food-loving gals from Portland come together every now and then, pick out a nice picnic place, bring some crazy delicious food and enjoy being outside with friends. Ok, now you might think this is nothing special, it’s just your ordinary picnic, but it isn’t; as in every society there are some rules to follow. So the girls of the Portland Picnic Society thought it would be nice to eat from real plates, it looks nicer plus it’s much better for the environment, they sort out ahead what’s on the menu and collect the recipes to share afterwards, scout out each time a new location and they play some outdoor games. You see, everything not that serious but calling yourself a picnic society sound more fun.
I, as a huge picnic fan, was taken by this idea. I reached out to the picnic society founders to ask for the permission to call my meet up a society too. They loved the idea, who knows, maybe it will became a movement across the country and now here we are. Our first SF Picnic Society was pretty successful. We had 12 members attending, so much delicious food and lots of fun. We are already planning the next one. If you are interested in becoming a member, here are some more details.
What do you think about the picnic societies, I would love to hear your thoughts.

See you next time!

Ich würde sofort auf deiner Picknickdecke Platz nehmen…. supertolle Idee. Das könnte ich hier in unserem Stadtpark eigentlich auch mal organisieren….

Genius! I’d be one of the first members of your picnic society for sure! And how great that you went from “great idea” to “ok, let’s do this!”. I’d love the idea of a picnic society in Berlin. But the weather is so unpredictable here that I’m afraid we’d have to postpone it all the time.

Thanks Lena.Makes me happy that you like the idea. Yeah, I know about the weather, but hey you can also make it somewhere inside if the weather gets bad. You don’t have to invite tons of people. :)

What do you think?
