ROAD TRIP :: HOOVER DAM

by

Hot, hotter, Hoover Dam. It’s crazy how hot it can be at this place. First time we went there was in July 2012 and my weather app was screaming 46°Celsius = 114°Fahrenheit! We tried to jump from shadow to shadow to find some protection, but nothing helped because even the air you breath is so insane hot. Only thing that can help you is to drink gallons of water.  But despite the high temperatures this place is definitely worth visiting. Escape the Las Vegas Strip for 3 hours ( it’s 45 min drive) and see where all the power and water comes from for all the bulbs and palms. It’s unbelievable what people can built. It took 5 years ( 1931-1936) to build this enormous structure that provides 3 states with electricity and water. Placed on the broader between Nevada and Arizona, Hoover Dam has a free public access, but you have to pay a parking fee per car which is only $7. Reasonable price. There are also guided tours of the turbines which requires an additional fee. For every architecture-lover this is a must-see and also for design-lovers there a few nice details from the art deco decade. And for all others, it’s pretty impressive.
